Balboa Park is in the heart of downtown San Diego. Come here to take a walk or a bike ride or see the beautiful gardens and Spanish Renaissance architecture in the area. Several museums are there like the Model Railroad Museum and the Air and Space Museum, and the Old Globe Theatre and Marie Hitchcock Puppet Theater. You can buy a Balboa Park Passport to get into all of the park’s many attractions, museums and the zoo.
Mission Bay Park is in northwestern San Diego, and features two miles of white sands, surfers, sunbathing tourists, skaters and bikers. Plus, you may even see some animals like seals along the way. There is also a rollercoaster ride and lots of places to eat.
The Gaslamp Quarter's is 16 blocks of Victorian-style buildings that house a selection of shops, art galleries and fashionable restaurants, as well as popular nightlife sites.
USS Midway Museum
Come see a real life U.S. Navy aircraft carrier turned into a museum, the USS Midway Museum. You can explore 60 exhibits and 29 restored aircraft, as well as see crew's sleeping quarters, engine room, ship's jail and the main flight control room. There are audio guides and real tour guides.
Cabrillo National Monument
On the southern tip of Point Loma is the Cabrillo National Monument, is a statue depicting Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo. He was the first European explorer to travel along the coast of California in 1542. Get a great view of the Pacific Ocean and maybe get lucky enough to see migrating whales from December to February.
See Shamu the killer whale and all his friends like dolphins, sharks, penguins and other creatures. There are also rides like the Manta roller coaster and the Journey to Atlantis ride. It is open year-round.
